Zulu War Commands

These are Empress Miniatures figures, I bought them a while ago and painted them last year. I managed to finish the base's today and will be selling these off for hobby spends.

Getting there with the camera but think I need to use a tripod as I have the base's in great sharp focus but the figures are a bit soft focus.
Tomorrow I should be finishing the Dwarf Crossbow's and starting on some WW2 Brits and F&IW units.

AWI and BB Progress

I had a few hours on the painting table today and pushed further with the AWI cav and the BB Orcs. I have the AWI up to the point at which I be hitting them with AP Dip. The BB Orc's are about half way through, I am enjoying these BB figure as they are that little bit different from everything else I have on the go.

I am braking in a new camera ATM and still working on the best settings for figure pictures.

Back to the Grindstone

Well after a great weekend in London and a return to Hockey training yesterday, today was my first full session on the painting table. I had a great time at Salute and the highlight was meeting my fellow bloggers, I am sorry if I failed to say hi to you but I am a pretty shy lad and so many new faces was quite overwhelming. I slipped off after a while but again great to see you all. Hard to believe but I only took one picture in Salute and that was a face shot of me and my old man to share on Facebook so the family could keep track of us.
On Sunday we went into London again to catch a bit of the Marathon was very happy to capture a great picture of Team GB super star the Weirwolf.
Back to the painting I have a quick shot of my painting table.
I spent a couple of hours on the Dwarf Crossbow men blocking in colours and doing the flesh, I have also started the flesh on the BB Orcs and completed the horses and flesh of the riders.

Lastly while in the loft the other week I spotted a box of Zulu war figures which I brought back down I plan to paint these up and sell them off, to which end I based the up ready for priming.

Games I Played, whats for the future.

I was just having a think Today about the wargames that I have played and ended up noting them down see below, these are games I played multiple time, I had a very active club and played many other periods once or twice but these are the ones I stuck with.

15mm Zulu War (house rules)

15mm NWF (house rules)

15mm Ancients (shock of impact, WRG)

15mm Sci-Fi (lazerburn)

28mm Fantasy (WFB 1st-4th Ed)

28mm Sci-fi (Rouge Trader)

1:300 Jet planes (Jet Noise)

28mm Ancients (WAB)

28mm ECW (WECW)

28mm ECW (Black Powder)

28mm SYW (Die Kriegskunst)

28mm SYW (Black Powder)

28mm F&IW (Musket & Tomahawk)

28mm Fantasy (WFB 3rd Ed)

I have painted so many more periods than these, but as I do not game that often these would still be what I consider my periods.
what about the future?:

If you are sticking with me and this blog what will you be seeing in the coming year, well mostly what you see above 28mm SYW, F&IW and WFB but I have a few newer things on the back burner. I have 28mm NWF already bought and paid for waiting paint (will be a skirmish level game) along the same lines I have 28mm Sudan (dam you lot for showing too many nice pictures of those Perry figures, you know who you are) again already bought and paid for. 15mm Pirate figures and ships are sitting in the lead pile and will see some paint this year. I guess my biggest efforts this year and into next is that my Dad and I have finally given in to our urges and started to build up at Zulu war army both Zulus and Brits (you will not be surprised to note we are going to build the column our relative was in).
On the Zulu war diary front you may not have noticed that I have now added the whole diary as an extra page on this blog, you can access it via the TAB at the top under my banner.

Pictures of Weekends SYW Game

I had a good game of SYW using BP this weekend against my Dad I took loads of photos so wanted to share.
The Advance Brigade heading for the bridge.

Once the River was reach they formed a battle line.

The Second Infantry Brigade heads on.

The Cavalry Brigade march on the flank.

The Prussian Brigades Advance.

The Cavalry form battle lines (and then failed to move for the rest of the game)

First Fire from the two guns

Grenadiers Guard the bridge

The Second Inf Brigade ford the river and press forward

French General call's out the orders

Fredrick plotting another victory

While the French won the first combat it has shaken them too much and the volley from the second line of Prussian's was too much to take and the battle was turned, from this point the french collapsed.

BB Orcs and SYW Command

Well in the morning I will be setting off to Morecambe to have a Black Powder SYW game with my Dad, as I will be commanding the French it was in my own interest to complete the command stands. I have completed two which should do for now.
I have been busy on the second batch of BB figures and while doing it I took a few pictures of how I painted the white armor these I have shown below.
Grey over a black undercoat

Thin white first layer

Second layer of thin white

A wash of Devlin mud over the studs and in the joins

The pictures were taken the other day and I have since finished the figures up to the point of finish touches and base's

I will be gaming this weekend and then next week Liz and I are heading off to Norfolk to have our holiday again now she is more able we can get out and about a bit more. I may post a battle report on Monday when we call in home for Liz's physio appointment before heading off on holiday.

Painting WIP

The last few days have been quite productive for me on the hobby front, I am really getting fired up about the Oldhammer event in August and even my Dad is thinking of building himself a nostalgic army (Norse). I have finished the 15mm WW2 Para’s and will be getting them boxed up and posted off very soon. I am also working on the second batch of Blood Bowl figures, see below I am afraid the camera has killed off most of the highlights (might have to dig the light tent out again). The goblin and one of the Orcs are from Gaspez Arts while the kicking Orc is an old GW sculpt.
I have been working on my Dwarf army too check out my sister blog for my Oldhammer stuff

I have started on a second Command Base for the French SYW this one is coming along well and should be completed so I can take him up at the weekend to Morecambe where he will be straight into action in a Black Powder game.
