Painting Ronin Day 69 (3 weeks left)

Hello All,
I arrived back from my holiday yesterday, and leap straight back onto the painting chair. I finished all the figures I had started before I left and this morning I based them. I will take them up to Dad's wargames room today and varnish them. I will take pictures to send off to Curt up their (we are dropping off My parents dog.)
Below is a shot of the completed stuff before dip and basing.

I did do a little bit of painting while away I painted some more forest Indians these I am very happy with how these came out spent that little bit longer on each one.
I think I am well on target for my 3000 with 3 weeks left and will try and push as far as possible. I have just prepped the next lot of French Inf ready for undercoating tomorrow. I have 1 more unit of Cav and 6 cannons and then all I have to do for the complete SYW army is a few command bases.
My internet coverage was poor so I have been off the net while away, I have just caught up and see that Chris has not been resting and is well on his way to his new par of 3000 great work Chris. Great to see Tamsin is right on Frans coattails and leaving Ray in her dust... I like all of you think Ray has a few tricks up his sleeve for these next three weeks.

So I hope everyone is setup for this run in and will all reach their personal Par's

Peace James

Holiday Ronin

So its been a hell of a few days, my wife's surgery went well and she is home and recovering. We set off on holiday to Norfolk tomorrow for a week, at first I was not going to take any paints but as we will be mostly chilling in the cottage or visiting friends I am planning on taking a unit of forest Indians. It will be nice to take my time on some figures for a change.
http://www.warlordgames.com/store/black-powder/french-indian-war-1754-1763/french-indian-war-1754-1763-woodland-indians-war-party-boxed-set.html#

I do have a few completed figures but would be pushing it to get them photographed and sent off to Curt so they will wait for my return next Monday.
I think unless some of Frans ninja's head down under to NZ I will have trouble catching up with Chris would is producing some cracking figures, the latest Modern stuff are my fav's so far.

Anyway I am heading off to the same cottage I stayed in last year.
I have my smart phone to keep an eye on the challenge but will not be posting so see you in a week or so
Peace
James

Painting Ronin Day 56

After yesterdays horror's today has been much more relaxing. I have so much on my painting table I feel like that kid who has stuffed the full cake in his mouth because his Mum said he shouldn't his mouth is so full he cant chew but he will not spit any out because then his Mum would be right. I feel that even though I am painting a couple of hours a day very little is getting done. Its only when you step back that you see how far I have progressed.
I have finished all the horse flesh (any one hungry for burger), progressed my French marines and started the next lot of WW1 British.

I also took time out from the challenge to start prepping my next commission a Orc and Goblin Blood Bowl team, these are from a long time customer of mine. I am painting his GW Warhammer fantasy figures starting with an Empire army.

Painting Ronin Day 55

Disaster at Exiles Painting
One of the ways I speed up my painting is by making sure that non painting time is used for drying. I tend to spray my figures before hitting the pit or just after I get up. Today this turned out to be a bad idea, I had finished the WW1 figures and F&IW civies and dipped them all that was left was dull coat and basing. I got up and took the figures out to the garage picking up my spray can on the way. After a good shake I hit the figures with the spray.... imagine my utter horror when it was white paint and not dull coat that came out.
A mad dash upstairs and some scrubbing with white spirits achieved two things all but two figures were saved and I developed a splitting headache from the fumes.
Needless to say I have no photos today as most of my work was repair over painting.

Painting Ronin Day 53

Been a few days since I posted as time is short these days and any spare I spend on painting not blogging. I returned from injury to the Hockey field yesterday, acted as sub so had a good 40 min in three stints, my legs ache today and I am suffering from what I call Hockey Butt (imagine running around in a crouched position and you get the idea)
I think even for me my current painting table is a little cramped. Those of you following the challenge will know I have entered my 3 French Cav units which regained the top spot for me and tool me over the 2000 pts. This keeps me on track to pass my Par score. But I wanted to try and get the rest of the cav done before I go off on Holiday next Monday, this would let me take them up to the wargames room when I return from holiday and take Mum and Dad their dog back.
Below is my very full painting table, so full it has taken 2 pictures. I have 1x12 Hussars 3x8 Hea Cav unit of French Marines (F&IW) unit of civies and unit of WW1 British.

Painting Ronin Day 50

Another good day on the brushes, I got all three units of Cav ready for basing and dip. I also picked out the next few batches for painting, more F&IW Civilians and something new WW1 British. I have had these for several years put just never got round to painting them. I have dusted them off undercoated them and they will soon get some love and attention.

My Wife has got her date for her surgery, Friday 15th the day before we were due to go on holiday to Norfolk. I had to make a few urgent calls and move the cottage booking to the Monday so she will have the weekend to relax before we set off, we are not planning anything to physical just a chance to catch up with friends.
I was doing a bit of thinking while wondering round work last night about doing a demo game for the show circuit, I know my Dad and our friend B are keen. I will have a sit down with Dad when he is home from NZ and discuss what we will do, what ever it turns out to be will be for 2014. I like the idea of a project that I can get my teeth into e.g. build terrain, paint figures design scenario.

Painting Ronin Day 49

Seems like ages since I was busy on the painting table, in fact its been less than a week but with a long weekend away and a couple of hospital visits (my wife's broken arm requires surgery :( ) I feel llike I have been slacking. In my absence that dasardly Chris has passed me by in the challenge, I think Chris should be spending more time in the New Zealand sun and less time painting. Or he could provide me his home address and I will send round my Dad to slow him down (Mum and Dad are enjoying a Holiday in Christchurch ATM).
Well tonight I managed a good long session on the painting table, I have progressed the French Hea Cav well and they should be complete by the weekend. The Hussars I love painting because they always add a splash of bright colors to any army and these French guys are no exception.

I had an order from Warbases.co.uk today a few more packs of the pill base's I am using for the skirmish Cav and some new movement trays these are for 12 Regular troops (will be for the NWF and Sudan).

Half Term Report

So we are all past half way through the challenge how are you doing?. I see Fran and Ray are matching each other blow for blow. Curt is keeping us all educated on all things spanish (and some stunning painting). I am being kept on my toes by Chris's US FOW figures. I am loving the fact that most Ronin are well on for their par score. I am well on target to exceed my par score which I am happy about but the thing that pleases me most is that figures that I have been putting to one side for ages are being dusted off and painted.

Challenge Figure Count

15mm Inf- 37
28mm Inf- 221
28mm Cav- 61

We only have 5 Ronin yet to post a score so a big well done to all, I am enjoying a half term break with my wife and my dogs but will be back on the brushes tomorrow. I have taken a few more pictures of completed works.
